Keşan - Kesan - Кешан - Κεσσάνη
Kesan. The junction connecting Anatolia to Europe from the Dardanelles.
The intersection of roads extending from Istanbul to the Ipsala Customs Gate and from there to Greece. The fertile lands at the crossroads, which have been the transition center of various cultures throughout history. The shores of the Gulf of Saros, a natural wonder where green and blue embrace.
Today; Kesan, located at the junction of the E-87, E-84, E-90 highways, is the largest district of Edirne. Edirne, Istanbul and Canakkale meet in Kesan and from there it reaches Greece. Kesan, at the crossroads connecting Europe with Anatolia, is 112 kilometers from Edirne, 215 kilometers from Istanbul and only 35 kilometers from Greece. Surrounded by Malkara to the east, Enez and Ipsala to the west, Uzunkopru to the north, Gelibolu and Saros Gulf to the south, the district has 2 towns and 45 villages. A significant portion of the Kesan population consists of Pomaks, Bosnians, Turkmens also known as Gacal and Romani who migrated from Bulgaria, Yugoslavia and Greece in the 19th and 20th centuries.
A rapid construction is noticeable in Kesan, which is seen as a mass settlement area, during the Republican period and especially in the last 20 years. Cooperative and private individuals' structures are still continuing rapidly. Social life has also kept pace with this rapid development. A very lively daily life is seen in Kesan every day, especially on Saturdays, when there is a weekly market. This movement also positively affects the socio-economic life in Kesan.
The Saros coastline and summer resorts such as Erikli, Mecidiye, Yayla, Gokcetepe and Sazlidere are sea, forest and picnic type summer tourism centers. Its clean sea and proximity have made Kesan a center of summer tourism. Discovered many years ago by local and foreign divers and famous for its grouper fish, Saros Bay is also a heaven for amateur fishermen. There are 144 species of fish and 170 species of underwater creatures in Saros Bay.
The gulf is one of only two gulfs in the world capable of self-cleaning, a process known as auto-epiphany. It is also suitable for scuba diving and trekking. The Gokcetepe and Danisment coasts have day-trip and inpatient recreational facilities affiliated with the Ministry of Forestry and National Parks.
