Kavakkoy - Kavakköy - Кавакьой - Καβακκέι
Although the history of the town is quite ancient, it is not very well known. It is estimated that the city of Lysimacheia was established here in 305 BC. Built on a hill in the Eksemil region overlooking both the Sea of Marmara and the Gulf of Saros, it became the capital of the Thrace Kingdom. It is said that King Lysimachus of Thrace minted the first coins in the world with a human portrait on them here.
During the Ottoman period, the town was known as Seydikavak. It is said that due to its pier and customs on the Saros coast, trade ships came here to have their necessary documents approved. It is also stated that the town became part of Ottoman lands even before Gelibolu.
