Kiyikoy - Kıyıköy - Мидия - Μήδεια
This town on the Black Sea coast is surrounded by forests, and the Pabucdere and Kazandere streams pass through this charming coastal town, flowing into the Black Sea. The main sources of livelihood for the local people are fishing and forestry.
The Aya Nikola Monastery, one of the world's oldest rock-carved monasteries, is located here. Kiyikoy is home to Thrace's only black pine forests. Additionally, these forests are adorned with Hungarian oak, sessile oak, hair oak, eastern hornbeam, black hornbeam, ash, beech, maple, linden, and alder trees. Also, animals such as roe deer, wild boars, wolves, jackals, martens, foxes, badgers, and rabbits are protected in these beautiful forests.
Kiyikoy was founded by the Carians, and its ancient name was Salmydessus. There are walls built with red bricks at the Saray and Vize entrances of Kiyikoy. Within these mostly neglected and ruined walls, there are Greek houses made of wood and stone. The view of the town from here gives a typical medieval appearance. With its historical assets, natural beauty, sea, beaches, and largely unspoiled village texture, Kiyikoy offers various attractions to its visitors. The town welcomes visitors in all seasons, with particularly high numbers during the summer.
