Edirne - Edirne - Одрин - Αδριανούπολη
Having been the capital of many civilizations from the ancient Greek period to the Romans and Ottomans, Edirne is also, according to some historians, the most attempted strategic city to be captured. It is also the birthplace of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, who conquered Istanbul.
So why is Edirne, where many civilizations developed and states tried to capture, so valuable? In addition to being one of the mandatory geographical transition points of migrating civilizations, Edirne is a center of attraction with its fertile agricultural lands, water resources and other natural resources. The fact that foods that are the continuation of the palace cuisine, which remained from the Ottoman Empire and whose history and culture still live in Edirne to some extent, are still produced and the oil wrestling that has been held since 1362 are the greatest proofs of this. These are the elements that increase the value of Edirne.
Edirne is a touristic city with its historical and cultural assets; it is also an agricultural city with its large fertile areas suitable for agriculture. Although there is one Organized Industrial Zone in Edirne; the occupancy rate here is quite low. Agriculture-based industry and especially the food industry have an important place in the city's industry.
Edirne has important advantages in terms of tourism. For example, Edirne is the settlement that attracts the most tourists in the region. It is a unique tourism city with its border gates with Bulgaria and Greece, a former Ottoman capital, Kirkpinar Oil Wrestling, one of the oldest sports organizations in the world, and foods from the palace kitchen.
Addressing fundamental problems, such as the fact that many historical sites, including the palace, remain underground and the city's lack of national and international recognition compared to its tourism competitors, will significantly contribute to the development of its tourism potential.
Edirne boasts a health museum, one of the most visited and successful examples of tourism development in Türkiye. It is a fact that Edirne deserves to be modeled after the recent efforts to establish it as a city of history and culture similar to Istanbul. Edirne possesses historical and cultural values at least as significant as Istanbul.
Agricultural production in Edirne is similar to the average agricultural structure in Thrace. Wheat and sunflowers are among the most produced crops. Furthermore, unlike the other two provinces, intensive rice cultivation occurs in and around İpsala, which has irrigated agricultural lands. There are a group of farmers engaged in fruit growing in and around the Havsa district; however, the amount of fruit and vegetables produced in Thrace accounts for less than 5% of total agricultural production. The fact that income from agriculture and livestock constitutes one-third of the total provincial income, a relatively high percentage, underscores the importance of agriculture for Edirne.
Edirne, like all of Thrace, is a province densely populated by immigrants from Greece and Bulgaria. Thrace University (the oldest university in the region) adds significant color to the demographic structure.
More than a city
Edirne, the former capital that has enriched poets' verses, been the subject of many books, and hosted the Ottoman sultanate, offers an unforgettable experience to visitors seeking more than just a city. With its unique historical heritage bearing the traces of three empires, as well as its unique natural and cultural riches, it offers visitors seeking an unforgettable experience. The people of Edirne, who have transformed their "traditional" values into a unique culture by blending them with a "Western" lifestyle, have passed down the attention and diversity of the land on which their city is built from generation to generation. They welcome visitors interested in their city with a heartfelt smile and sincere hospitality.A true "open-air museum" that resembles only itself
Edirne carries to the present the traces of sultanate in its magnificent history, the sublimity of art in the sky-high minarets of its mosques, the joy of gathering on bridges that fit like ribbons across its rivers, the simplicity of sharing in its embroidered soup kitchens, and the sincerity of hospitality in its magnificent caravanserais that have defied the centuries...Edirne emerges from its shell
After the conquest of Istanbul, its status as the capital city ended, but its importance remained intact thanks to its geographical location and the richness of its historical and cultural heritage; despite being shaken by major fires and earthquakes, it has managed to recover and survive; Despite suffering indescribable consequences from Russian, Bulgarian, and Greek occupations, Edirne resisted without losing hope and made history with its heroism in defense. Today, with the strength it derives from the sensitive approach of its local government, civil society organizations, and the local people, it is emerging from its shell and rapidly progressing towards becoming the "capital of culture" it once was.Edirne

Significant progress has been made on the Cihannuma Pavilion and Arz Odasi as part of the renovation of Edirne Palace, the historic home of the sultans whose foundation was laid in 1450. Teams are working to restore the palace's splendor in line with a five-year Master Plan.
Drama bridge, Hasan, it's narrow, it can't be crossed
Its waters are cold, Hasan, not a drop can be drunk
Let your horse gallop, Debreli Hasan, let the mountains echo
Let Hasan Karakedi listen in the Drama prison
Did you think the gravestones, Hasan, were for sheep?
Did you think killing a man, Hasan, was a game?
Let your horse gallop, Debreli Hasan, let the mountains echo
Let your friends listen in the Drama prison
Drama bridge, Hasan, it's narrow, so tight
I don't want much, Yanko Çorbacı, just fifteen hundred lira
Let your horse gallop, Debreli Hasan, let the mountains echo
Let Hasan Karakedi listen in the Drama prison
Did you cross the Drama bridge, Hasan, at night?
Did you drink the cup of death, Hasan, before you died?
Let your horse gallop, Debreli Hasan, let the mountains echo
Let your friends listen in the Drama prison
