İpsala - Ipsala - Ипсала - Ύψαλα
Ipsala; is a district established in Ipsala Plain, which is located on the Greek border of Turkey and forms a part of Meric Plain, which has a border gate. The district is located on fertile agricultural lands. Therefore, the most important share belongs to Meric and Ergene Rivers. In the 1960s, Ipsala became a region with wet agricultural lands with the construction of dams on the riverside in the Ipsala section of Meric.
Rice is an agricultural product with significant nutritional value. The fact that it is consumed a lot, especially in Eastern societies, increases the economic value of rice. Most of the countries in Asia are implementing programs to increase productivity in production in terms of quality and quantity by improving rice production in their own countries. Rice is one of the most valuable products grown in the Thrace Region and is economical. Although the district specializes in rice production, taking measures to develop rice clustering will make a significant economic contribution. Although Ipsala has a higher income level than other districts in the region, it struggles with problems such as urbanization and environmental problems.
It is surrounded by the districts of Meriç to the northwest, Uzunköprü to the northeast, Kesan to the east and south, and Enez to the southwest.
Located in the southwest of Edirne, Ipsala exhibits a natural structure consisting of low hills and rough, undulating plains.
The northern and eastern parts have elevations varying between 100-300 meters, while the western part is occupied by the İpsala Plain, which forms a part of the lower Meric Plain.
Irrigated by the Meric River and its tributaries and frequently subject to flooding, the plain was transformed into one of the largest and most productive agricultural areas in the province with the construction of dams along the Meric River in the 1960s.
The Meric River to the west and the Ergene River to the northwest draw the district's natural border. A portion of the Altinyazi Dam reservoir, built on the Basamaklar Creek, a tributary of the Ergene River, for irrigation and flood prevention purposes, as well as the Yeni Karpuzlu Reservoir and the Sultankoy Dam, are also within the district borders.
The climate is notable for the temperature differences between summer and winter and night and day. A continental climate prevails. Precipitation accumulates in winter and spring.
Humidity is high in summer due to rice cultivation.
The Ipsala District Center was established on the slope of a hill in the northeast of the Ipsala plain.
The E-84 highway, which passes 2 km south of the district and reaches the Ipsala Border Gate on the Greek border, intersects with the E-87 highway coming from Eceabat in Kesan. This highway connects to the D100 and E-80 highways at two points near Havsa and Silivri, via a road passing through the town.
The Ipsala district center is 108 km from Edirne. The district connects to neighboring districts by road, and transportation to all villages is problem-free.
Regular bus services operate from the district center to Edirne, Tekirdag, Istanbul, and Ankara.
Ipsala is reached from the Kesan district. The roads are asphalt, and transportation between the district center and the villages is available year-round.
