Trakya University, established in our city of Edirne, the gateway of our country to the Balkans and from there to Europe, is one of the distinguished universities representing our nation on national and international platforms. Trakya University was established on July 20, 1982 with the Decree Law No. 41. Trakya University was established with the following; It consists of the newly established Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Tekirdağ Faculty of Agriculture, affiliated to the Presidency; the Faculty of Medicine, which was established by changing the affiliation of the Edirne Faculty of Medicine of Istanbul University and connected to the Presidency; the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, which was established by converting the Edirne State Academy of Engineering and Architecture into a faculty and connected to the Presidency; the newly established Institute of Social Sciences, Institute of Science, Institute of Health Sciences, affiliated to the Presidency; the School of Education, which was established by changing the name of the Edirne Institute of Education of the Ministry of National Education and connected to the Presidency; the Çanakkale School of Education, which was established by changing the name of the Çanakkale Institute of Education and connected to the Presidency; the Edirne Vocational School, Çanakkale Vocational School, Kırklareli Vocational School and Tekirdağ Vocational School, which were connected to the Presidency.
In the 1988-1989 academic year at Trakya University, the Health Services Vocational School, Çorlu Vocational School and Keşan Vocational School, Biga Vocational School was opened in the 1990-1991 academic year, and the State Conservatory was opened in the 1991-1992 academic year.
Within the body of Trakya University; On July 11, 1992, with the Law No. 3837, the Faculty of Education was established by converting the Çorlu Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences and the School of Education into faculties. With the same law, Çanakkale Faculty of Education, Çanakkale Vocational School and Biga Vocational School, which were established by transforming Çanakkale Education School within Trakya University into a faculty, were transferred to the newly established "Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University."
With the protocol made between the Council of Higher Education and the Ministry of Health in the 1992-1993 academic year, Edirne Health Services Vocational School, Kırklareli Health Services Vocational School and Tekirdağ Health Services Vocational School in the 1993-1994 academic year, Hayrabolu Vocational School, Malkara Vocational School, Lüleburgaz Kepirtepe Vocational School in the 1993-1994 academic year (the name of the school, which was "Lüleburgaz Vocational School" at the time of its establishment, was changed to "Lüleburgaz Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vocational School" at the meeting of the General Assembly of Higher Education dated 17/04/1998, and later this name was changed to (The name of the school was changed to "Lüleburgaz Kepirtepe Vocational School" at the meeting of the General Assembly of Higher Education dated 18/08/2006.) and Şarköy Vocational School, Uzunköprü Vocational School, Babaeski Vocational School, Çerkezköy Vocational School and Marmara Ereğlisi Vocational School started education in the 1994-1995 academic year, Havsa Vocational School, Muratlı Vocational School and Saray Vocational School started education in the 1995-1996 academic year.
Kırkpınar Physical Education and Sports School, established with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 14.11.1995 and numbered 95/7515, started education in 1996-1997. (The name of the school, which was "School of Physical Education and Sports" at the time of its establishment, was changed to "Kırkpınar School of Physical Education and Sports" with the Council of Ministers Decision numbered 2005/9552, published in the Official Gazette dated 11-11-2005 and numbered 25990.)
Edirne School of Health, Tekirdağ School of Health and Kırklareli School of Health, which were established with the Council of Ministers Decision numbered 96/8655 dated 10.10.1996, started education in 1997-1998. After this date, Edirne School of Health Services, Tekirdağ School of Health Services and Kırklareli School of Health Services, which provide two-year associate degree education, no longer accept students. In addition; Edirne Health College was closed with the Cabinet Decree No. 2010/558 dated 7/6/2010 published in the Official Gazette dated 1/7/2010 and numbered 27628.
Vize Vocational School, established in 1996, started education in 1998-1999.
Technical Education Faculty, established in 1998 with the Council of Ministers Decree No. 98/11641, started education in Kırklareli in the 2000-2001 academic year.
Pınarhisar Vocational School and İpsala Vocational School, established in 2003, started education in 2003-2004.
With the Council of Ministers Decree No. 2005/9489 dated 30-09-2005 The Faculty of Fine Arts, which was established, started education in 2008-2009.
The School of Foreign Languages, which was established with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 30-09-2005 and numbered 2005/9489, started education in 2006-2007.
The School of Applied Sciences, which was established with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 30-09-2005 and numbered 2005/9490, started education in 2006-2007.
The law numbered 5467, published in the Official Gazette dated 17-03-2006 and numbered 26111,e According to ADDITIONAL ARTICLE 62 added to the Law on Organization of Higher Education Institutions numbered 2809, Tekirdağ Faculty of Agriculture, Çorlu Faculty of Engineering, Tekirdağ School of Health, Tekirdağ Vocational School, Çorlu Vocational School, Çerkezköy Vocational School, Hayrabolu Vocational School, Malkara Vocational School, Marmara Ereğlisi Vocational School, Muratlı Vocational School, Saray Vocational School and Şarköy Vocational School, which were affiliated with Trakya University Rectorate and whose affiliation was changed, were transferred to the newly established Namık Kemal University.
In the meeting of the General Assembly of Higher Education dated 13/04/2006; "Edirne Vocational School" and "Kırklareli Vocational School" were closed and "Edirne Technical Sciences Vocational School", "Edirne Social Sciences Vocational School", "Kırklareli Technical Sciences Vocational School", "Kırklareli Social Sciences Vocational School" were established and they started operating as of 26/09/2006 by assigning the director positions.
Arda Vocational School was established in Edirne province at the meeting of the General Assembly of Higher Education dated 26/05/2006. It started its activities in the additional placement period of the 2007-2008 academic year.
According to the ADDITIONAL ARTICLE 83 added to the Law on Organization of Higher Education Institutions numbered 2809 with the law numbered 5662 published in the Official Gazette dated 29-05-2007 and numbered 26536; Technical Education Faculty, Kırklareli Health College, Kırklareli Social Sciences Vocational School, Kırklareli Technical Sciences Vocational School, Babaeski Vocational School, Lüleburgaz Kepirtepe Vocational School, Pınarhisar Vocational School, Vize Vocational School, Kırklareli Health Services Vocational School, which were affiliated with Trakya University Rectorate and whose affiliation was changed, were transferred to the newly established Kırklareli University.
Tunca Vocational School was established in Edirne Province in the meeting of the General Assembly of Higher Education dated 22/06/2007. It started its activities in the 2008-2009 academic year as Distance Education.
With the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 30/7/2008 and numbered 2008/14019, published in the Official Gazette dated 04/09/2008 and numbered 26987, the Faculty of Health Sciences was established in Edirne Province. It started its activities in the 2009-2010 academic year.
With the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 02-02-2009 and numbered 2009/14652, published in the Official Gazette dated 28/02/2009 and numbered 27155, "Keşan Yusuf Çapraz Applied Sciences College" was established in Keşan District of Edirne Province. It started its activities in the 2009-2010 academic year.
With the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 01/02/2010 and numbered 2010/130, published in the Official Gazette dated 26/02/2010 and numbered 27505, the "Balkan Research Institute" was established.
With the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 05/02/2010 and numbered 2010/127, published in the Official Gazette dated 04/03/2010 and numbered 27511, the "Faculty of Arts and Sciences" within our University was closed and the "Faculty of Arts and Sciences" and the "Faculty of Arts" were established under the Presidency.
With the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 26/08/2011 and numbered 28094, published in the Official Gazette dated 24/10/2011 and numbered With the Council of Ministers Decision numbered 2011/2239, the "Faculty of Dentistry" and "Faculty of Pharmacy" were established.
After the units affiliated to Trakya University, "Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University", "Namık Kemal University" and "Kırklareli University" were separated, "Trakya University" became a "Provincial University" consisting of 10 faculties, 4 institutes, 4 colleges, 1 conservatory, 9 vocational colleges, 20 research and application centers and 1 kindergarten in 1 province and 4 districts in the 2011-2012 academic year.
The Ergene Basin Environmental Plan is the most important project signed between a ministry and a university at the regional level. Trakya University is also a university that has intense relations with the Balkan Countries. The fact that the national office of the Balkan Environmental Union (B.EN.A) is located in the Edirne-Karaağaç Rectorate Campus and that the university has made coordination agreements with ten different universities in the Balkans are examples of this effort.
Trakya University moved its Rectorate Building to the historical large station building in Edirne Karaağaç in June 1998 and began to carry out its activities there. Although the exact design year of Edirne Train Station, one of the stations on the railway connecting Istanbul to Europe, has not been determined, it is known that the structure was left unfinished in 1914 due to war, but was opened after the Republic in 1930. The building was restored to its original state by Trakya University in 1998 and brought back to life.
