Kumbag Public Beach

Located in the Kumbag neighborhood, the beach attracts a lot of attention, especially during the summer months. With its shallow, sandy sea, it offers a suitable environment for families with children. Amenities such as fish sandwiches and a tea garden are available around the beach.

Kumbag Beach is a natural and touristic coastal area located in Kumbag neighborhood, on the coast of the Marmara Sea. Located approximately 14 kilometers from the center of Tekirdag, the beach is one of the heavily used sea tourism areas in the region. It is frequently preferred by domestic tourists from Istanbul and surrounding provinces during the summer months.

The natural structure of Kumbag Beach has been shaped by the geomorphological features of this region bordering the Marmara Sea. The beach area was formed as a result of the accumulation of sand dunes created by the erosion and dissolution of sandstones. The coastal section between Kumbag and Gazikoy exhibits a high coastal structure due to the Ganos Mountains extending perpendicularly to the sea, while the sandy areas stretching along the coast form recreational areas.

According to the Tekirdag Provincial Environmental Status Report, the Kumbag Beach area is among the swimming areas contributing to the environmental sustainability of the province, and seawater quality is regularly monitored. Kumbag Beach is among the beaches in Tekirdag that have earned the Blue Flag, certified for their compliance with environmental health and international standards.

The presence of forest recreation facilities around the beach contributes to the development of rural tourism alongside sea tourism. The region is not only a summer resort area but also an area where alternative tourism activities based on rural development are carried out. The transition zone between the forest areas on the Kumbag ridges and the coastline allows for activities such as nature walks, camping, and the promotion of local products.

The area around Kumbag Beach bears traces of the Kumbos settlement, which was a Greek fishing village in the past. With the contribution of the population that migrated to the region from the Balkans, socio-cultural diversity has increased, and this is reflected in the tourism structure. Near the beach, there is also a winery dating back to the Greek period, which is a historical structure that attracts the attention of visitors.

Coastal fishing activities are also carried out on the shores of Kumbag. The fishing harbor on the coast and the fisheries cooperative in the region contribute to the sustainability of small-scale fishing in particular. Fishing, where species such as bluefish, horse mackerel, bonito, and whiting are caught, is not only one of the sources of livelihood in the region, but also among the economic activities related to tourism.
