In the late 16th century, it was founded by a few Bulgarian families from the town of Doğanhisar in Western Thrace. The name of the settlement, which was a village at the time, is recorded as Bulgarköy in the 1877 records.

Yenimuhacir, which took its current name in 1928, was occupied by the Bulgarians during the First Balkan War in 1912. In the Second Balkan War in 1913, it was re-established by immigrant Turks following the migration of the population living in the Greek town of Sofulu and its villages. While Keşan and its villages were occupied by the Greek army, which landed in Tekirdağ in July 1920, Yenimuhacir village suffered the same fate. The Greek occupation ended on November 19, 1922, when a battalion under the command of Major Mehmet Bey came through Malkara to liberate the district and its villages.

On December 9, 1988, the village, which was converted into a township, established its municipal organization.
