The Thrace Oilseeds Agricultural Sales Cooperatives Union, established in 1966 by the Babaeski, Edirne and Lüleburgaz Oilseeds Agricultural Sales Cooperatives, is known as the Thrace Union in short.
The number of cooperatives of Trakya Birlik, which has shown rapid and stable development since its establishment, has increased from 3 at the time of its establishment to 48 cooperatives operating in the Marmara, Aegean and Central Anatolia Regions today. Again, the number of partners, which was 2,103 at the time of establishment, has increased to 40,000 today.
Trakya Birlik purchases an average of 30-50% of the sunflower produced in the country annually.
In its founding years, Trakya Birlik stored the products it received from its partners and sunflower producers and sold them when it found a suitable price. Thus, "evaluating the products of the partners and also meeting the needs of the producers such as seeds, fertilizer, agricultural tools and equipment". With the purchase of the Karacabey Oil Factory in 1976 and the gradual start of production of the Integrated Facilities from 1982 onwards, it started to produce refined oil, margarine and technical feed and its new goals are as follows: "To prevent price fluctuations against the producer and the consumer, to increase the producer's profit by reducing the intermediaries by turning the products into finished products and to provide economic service to the consumer, to offer quality products to the market, to provide high-yield seeds through its affiliated seed company and to ensure an increase in the oil rate, to provide free service to the soil "To ensure balance and savings in fertilizer use with the help of analysis laboratories."
