There is no written document or source about the history of the town of Begendik because it is a small settlement. There is also information about Kesan in the sources that have been found. However, only the name of Begendik is mentioned in these sources.

According to the legend, when Lala Sahin Pasha conquered the Balkans and stopped by Kesan, he also came to Begendik. When he came to Begendik from the direction of Kesan, he stayed next to the monastery on the left. Lala Sahin Pasha looked at the village and said, 'I like this place very much. Let's call it Begendik.' From that day on, the name of this place remained Begendik.

Begendik village was a Greek village in the 1900s. According to the stories of the Greeks who used to live here, they gave it the name of hero or young man in Greek. After the First World War, the people of the town migrated here from Greece and Bulgaria and removed the Greeks from here. Currently, all of Begendik is Turkish and Muslim.

Begendik was governed by a muhtar after the declaration of the Republic. It became a municipality in 1969 and was divided into three large neighborhoods. Begendik is the first town of Kesan to become a municipality.
