Located on the Istanbul - Edirne railway, the town was founded on December 25, 1925, and developed with the Alpullu Sugar Factory, which started operations on November 26, 1926, producing Turkey's first sugar.
In 1964, it gained municipal status. In the facility that includes the lodgings affiliated with the Alpullu Sugar Factory, there is the Ataturk Mansion and Museum, where Mustafa Kemal Ataturk stayed. Additionally, this area includes a tennis court, swimming pool, and an artificial turf field.
