From the moment mass struggles began, this region has been one of the areas most affected by intercontinental invasions and frequent conquests. For a long time, the town and its surroundings, located within the territories of the Great Roman Empire, were described as hybrids of ancient Romans and ancient Greeks. After the Ottomans' entry into Rumelia, the Kayi Turkish Raiders made their presence known in Thrace, which was then a Greek land, around 1356. Shortly afterward, the town became part of the Ottoman Empire and served as a passage route for Ottoman raiders on their expeditions into Europe.

The development of Kavakli and its establishment as a more populated settlement began in 1912. The first settlers said it was an abandoned Bulgarian village. Some of those who migrated from Bulgaria to the homeland after the Balkan War settled in the abandoned buildings of this Bulgarian village. The migration continued with people from Yugoslavia and those living near the town of Thessaloniki in Greece, who refused to bow to Greek pressure and had to migrate to the homeland.
