Evrese Beach is a tranquil beach located on the northern coast of the Saros Bay, in the Kavakkoy district of Gelibolu, Canakkale, and has gained popularity in recent years. Although generally known as "Evrese," it is actually a little further from the town center and is also referred to as Kavakkoy Beach.
It is approximately 35-40 km from the center of Gelibolu. Coming from Istanbul, it is located on the coast of the Saros Bay before entering Gelibolu. It is easiest to get there by private car. If you want to go by public transport, you need to use the Kavakkoy minibuses via Gelibolu or Kesan.
The shoreline of the beach is stony. Don't expect fine sand. Your feet may hurt while walking on the beach or when first entering the sea. After passing the stones at the first entrance (after about 2-3 meters), the ground turns into soft sand. The water, as is classic in Saros, is crystal clear and clean. However, it is a little cool. It is not very shallow, it deepens after a certain distance. Families with children should be careful. Sea urchins may be present in the stony areas. Also, due to the currents of Saros, jellyfish may be seen periodically. Wearing sea shoes will increase your comfort by 100%.
It offers a tranquil escape point within the protected nature of Saros Bay. While there are no facilities or businesses in the area, there are street vendors and a small restaurant nearby for basic necessities. Therefore, it is largely suitable for those seeking a natural experience. 4G mobile internet access is available in the area.
It has an unspoiled atmosphere, preferred by locals for fishing, camping, and spending time. Due to the natural nature of the beach, you need to bring your own fishing rod and gear as there are no equipment rental services. The sea can be choppy in windy weather, so it's important to adjust your swimming and fishing plans according to the weather.
The area is an important wetland offering opportunities to observe bird species such as flamingos, spoonbills, and storks.
There are no accessibility arrangements (ramps, wooden walkways, etc.) for wheelchair users or individuals with mobility difficulties on the beach. The fact that it consists entirely of sand makes it almost impossible for visitors with limited mobility to use.
The beach is located within the Saros Bay Wetland Protection Area, which is under the RAMSAR Convention. Activities such as camping and lighting fires may be restricted or prohibited in this sensitive ecosystem. Lighting fires is strictly prohibited, especially during periods of high risk of forest fires. Environmental awareness is required.
The area is close to military units and the Greek maritime border. Military vehicle patrols may be seen periodically. Entry into prohibited military zones should be avoided. Caution should be exercised regarding maritime traffic and possible military exercises.
