Finansbank A.S. was established on October 26, 1987, under the leadership of businessman Husnu Ozyegin and with 100 partners, in accordance with the provisions of the Banking Law and the Turkish Commercial Code. QNB Finansbank, which rapidly grew within the sector to rank among the top five private banks, was acquired in 2006 by the National Bank of Greece (NBG), Greece's largest bank. In June 2016, the bank became part of an international organization after being acquired by Qatar National Bank S.A.Q. (QNB Group)—Qatar's largest bank and a leading financial institution in the Middle East and Africa region. In line with its principal shareholder QNB Group's vision of becoming a global brand, the bank rebranded as QNB Turkiye as of October 2024.
DenizBank, which commenced operations after being acquired from the Privatization Administration by Zorlu Holding in 1997, joined the group of Dexia—one of Europe’s leading financial groups—in October 2006, and subsequently became part of Sberbank, Russia’s largest state-owned bank, as of September 2012; the Bank’s shares were later transferred to Emirates NBD, one of the leading financial institutions in the MENAT region, in 2019.
Established in Ankara in 1946, Garanti BBVA is Turkey’s second-largest private bank in terms of consolidated asset size. Garanti BBVA’s controlling shareholder is Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria S.A. (BBVA), which holds an 85.97% stake in the bank.

Akbank was established in Adana on January 30, 1948, as a privately owned commercial bank. Thus, Is Bankasi—the Republic of Turkey's first national bank—was founded on August 26, 1924, in accordance with the decisions reached at the First Izmir Economic Congress and under Ataturk's directives.
