Sekerbank was established in Eskisehir on October 12, 1953, under the name "Pancar Kooperatifleri Bankasi A.S." (Beet Cooperatives Bank Inc.), with the aim of supporting local development, sustainable production, and the agricultural industry through the savings of hundreds of thousands of farmers who were members of beet cooperatives. The bank adopted the name Sekerbank when it relocated to Ankara in 1956. A portion of Sekerbank's shares was offered to the public in 1997, and its headquarters was moved to Istanbul in 2004.
